Rats and
mice have caused serious fires by gnawing
away the insulation around electrical
cables, floods by puncturing pipes and
could simply eat from a wide variety of
stock material.
Prosecutions
and fines or rodent infested premises are
guaranteed to make news headlines,
frightening customers away.

RAT DROPPINGS
KEEP ON
THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LAW
The Food
Safety Act has stringent rules covering
any vehicles used to carry food, as well
as the production process for the food
itself.

EVIDENCE OF RATS
Rats
and mice increase contamination and spread
disease rapidly. They contaminate
food-preparation surfaces with their
faeces, which can contain the bacterium
that causes food poisoning (salmonellosis)
and also with urine which soaks the fur
(up to 50% of rats in some populations may
carry Leptospira, which is excreted in
their urine.).
A
rat builds a rather bulky nest of any
available material and the litter can be
as large as fifteen. They can have up to
five litters per year.

Rats and
Mice can live and thrive under a variety
of conditions in and around homes and
farms. House mice consume food meant for
humans or pets. Droppings, fresh gnawing
and tracks indicate areas where mice are
active. Rats and mice have a
characteristic musky odour that identifies
their presence. They can be seen during
daylight and at night their presence can
be identified by their 'scurrying' or
'gnawing' sounds.
